Acupuncture

Acupuncture (from Latin: acus, needle (noun), and pungere, puncture (verb)) is a technique of traditional Chinese medicine that involves the insertion and manipulation of needles into the body to restore health and well-being in the patient. In addition to inserting acupuncture needles and rotating them to tone or disperse, acupuncturists also use moxas.

The most widespread technique is a pure or cone-shaped artemisia, which is lit to heat the point, or a piece is cut and placed on the needle's handle, allowing it to burn completely. Acupuncturists widely use this technique for pain treatment.

The definition and characterization of these points are currently standardized by the World Health Organization (WHO) through standardized nomenclature that groups the major acupuncture traditions, although it does not fully correspond to a single traditional point pattern.

The WHO has published documents and guides to encourage clinical studies of this medical discipline as a way to validate acupuncture, improving its acceptance in modern medicine, and thus extending its use as a simple, inexpensive, and effective therapeutic option.

In this line, the WHO itself has been disseminating clinical trial results for several years.
